Applying for a mortgage loan can be one of the most troublesome parts of purchasing a house. But it doesn't have to be.
I have excellent relationships with a lot of lenders in King, and they've helped me learn some things that will make the process of applying for a loan a snap.
1 – Compile a list of questions about your loan program
If you find that you don't totally realize the advantages and disadvantages of the different programs, be sure to bring a list of questions with you.
I or one of my lenders will be able to assist you in understanding the advantages and disadvantages of both programs, because it's hard to know the distinctions between both fixed and adjustable rate mortgages.
2 – Determine when you want to lock
When you lock in the interest rate, it means that a mortgage lender keeps to the interest rates for the loan – often at the time the loan application is received.
By floating the rate, you can lock the rate anytime between the day you apply for the loan and issuance of closing documents. Buyers who prefer to float believe that the interest rates will decline in the near future. Click here to see the outlook for the next 90 days of interest rates.
3 – Decide if you want to pay additional points to decrease your interest rate
If you decide to pay additional points to lower the rate of your loan, you'll pay for them in cash at closing. Each point is 1 percent of the mortgage loan.

4 – Compile your paperwork
Obtaining a loan requires a lot of paperwork, so you should take some time to get your documents together. Click here to preview common information that goes on a loan application.
